Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 22, 2026
FirstTab is run by FirstTab LLC, an Ohio limited liability company. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. It's written in plain language on purpose.
The short version: we collect what's needed to run the service and nothing else. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't build a profile of you.
What we collect
Your account. Your email address and the display name you choose. Your password is never stored in a form we can read — our authentication provider stores a cryptographic hash of it, and no one at FirstTab can see it or recover it.
What you put in. The links, folders, notes, and checklists you create: their titles, addresses, contents, and the order you arranged them in. This is the service. We store it so it can follow you between computers.
Sharing and collaboration. When you share a folder or note, we store who you shared it with, what role you gave them, whether they accepted, and a history of changes made to the shared item — including which account made each change. Anyone with access to a shared item can see that history.
Preferences. Your theme choice and a few view settings, stored in your browser and, in some cases, on your account so they follow you.
Technical logs. Our hosting and database providers keep standard server logs — IP address, browser type, timestamps, which pages were requested. These exist for security and debugging, not analytics.
What we don't collect. We don't run analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking scripts. We don't use tracking cookies. We don't collect your browsing history, and FirstTab has no visibility into what you do after you click a link — clicking a link in FirstTab takes you away from FirstTab, and we don't follow.
Why we use it
- To sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To store and sync your links, folders, and notes.
- To make sharing work — delivering invitations, enforcing viewer and editor roles, and showing change history.
- To send you the emails the service requires: confirming your address, resetting your password, and notifying you about a share invitation. We don't send marketing email.
- To keep the service secure and to fix problems.
We don't use your content to train machine-learning models, and we don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of vendors to run the service. They process data on our instructions and only for these purposes:

We may also disclose information if legally required to — a subpoena, court order, or similar — or where necessary to investigate a security incident or a violation of our Terms.
If FirstTab LLC is ever sold or merged, your information would transfer as part of that. We'd tell you before it happened.
Requests your browser makes to other companies
Loading FirstTab causes your browser to contact a few third parties directly. We don't control these requests and we don't receive anything back from them, but they happen, and you should know:
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces the interface uses.
- jsDelivr serves the software library that handles signing in.
- Google's favicon service supplies the small site icons next to your links.
That last one deserves a plain statement, because most services don't make it. To draw the icon for each of your saved links, your browser sends the web addresses of those links to Google. Google receives the domain names of sites you've saved. It does not receive your identity, your account, your note contents, or your folder names, and there's no cookie or login attached to the request.
If this matters to you, don't save the link in FirstTab, or keep it somewhere else. We're planning to change how icons are fetched so this stops happening; when we do, we'll update this policy.
Cookies and local storage
FirstTab doesn't use tracking cookies. We use your browser's local storage for two things:
- Your sign-in session, so you stay signed in between visits. Clearing it signs you out.
- Your theme preference, so the page doesn't flash the wrong color while it loads.
That's the whole list.
Sharing means sharing
When you invite someone to a folder or note, they can see everything in it. If you gave them the editor role, they can change it. If you later remove their access, they no longer see new changes — but nothing stops a person from having already read, copied, or saved what they saw while they had access. Treat a share the way you'd treat handing someone a printout.
FirstTab's default view shows only what you've pinned, which means opening the app in front of other people doesn't reveal what's in your folders. That's a design choice for shoulder-surfing, not a security guarantee: your data is loaded in your browser and someone with access to your unlocked computer could reach it. FirstTab is not encrypted in a way that hides your content from us or from our database provider.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists.
To delete your account, email us at firsttabllc@gmail.com from the address on the account. We'll delete your account and your content within 30 days. Some things survive that deletion, and you should know which:
- Backups. Our database provider keeps backups on its own schedule; your data disappears from those as they age out.
- Shared content you don't own. If you contributed to someone else's shared folder, what you added stays with them — it's theirs now, and removing it would damage their data.
- Change history. Entries recording that a change was made may remain visible to other people in a shared item.
- Server logs, which age out on their own.
Export your data any time, without asking us, from the profile panel. It downloads as a JSON file. We'd rather you had a copy than felt stuck.
Your choices
- See and change everything you've stored, from inside the app.
- Export it, any time, as a file.
- Delete individual items yourself, or the whole account by emailing us.
- Change your email or display name from the profile panel.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We don't sell personal information and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of on that front. To exercise any right, email firsttabllc@gmail.com.
Security
Access to your data is enforced at the database level: the rules that decide who can read or write a row live in the database itself, not just in the app, so a bug in the app's interface can't hand your links to someone else. Connections are encrypted in transit. Passwords are hashed, never stored in readable form.
We're a small operation and we're honest about the limits: no service is perfectly secure, and we can't promise otherwise. Use a password you don't use anywhere else. If you find a security problem, please email firsttabllc@gmail.com — we'd genuinely rather hear from you than not.
Children
FirstTab isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll remove it. If you're between 13 and 18, use FirstTab only with a parent or guardian's permission.
People outside the United States
FirstTab is operated from the United States and your information is stored and processed there. Privacy laws in the US differ from those where you live. By using FirstTab you understand your information will be handled in the US.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use FirstTab after a change means you accept it.
